Our services.

  • Interior

Hanging shelves and artwork; fixing broken pieces of trim, drywall patching, and texture matching.

Paint matching & touch-ups; Walls, cabinets, doors and trim; Oil or latex, whatever you want. We’ll probably organize your paint shelf while we're at it!

  • Exterior & Yards

We can help you step up your game with things like mulch spreading & stone placing; Hole diggin’ and fillin’; Installing yard lighting to properly highlight your foliage; Fence un-leaning and Post-re-setting, as well as fixing, sanding, painting and staining gates. Kid and dog-proofing available too!

  • Plumbing Fixtures

Swapping your old faucet for a shiny new one; Troubleshooting and fixing a running toilet; or Installing most appliances.

We may decline “in the wall” plumbing repairs, but if we can't handle it, we will tell you before it's a problem.

  • Electrical Fixtures

Swapping a ceiling fan for a light or vice versa; Installing smart flood lights, doorbells and thermostats; Replacing light bulbs in really tall ceilings.

We might not mess with any actual wiring, but we can definitely swap out fixtures and help with simple electrical issues.

Understanding

When you click the ‘Request a Gig’ button, you'll answer some questions about your project in order to determine whether it is a basic Quick Job, or a Custom Job that requires more attention to detail.

Once the type of job is determined, you will be assigned a Venue Manager who will review your submission and ask for additional information as well as reference photos of the issue. These photos are crucial for determining what the issue is and ensuring that both parties are on the same page about what needs to be done.

As soon as the project details are confirmed, you will be contacted by your Handyband Booking Agent and move on to the Estimating step.

Estimating

Next, your Booking Agent will create the scope of work and cost estimate, as well as coordinate the logistics of the job. These include deciding the best band member(s) for the job, when it can be done, how long it should take, and how much it should cost.

As soon as you sign off on the estimate, the final step is getting your Gig booked.

Booking

Now that you feel good about how we're going to handle it and the job has been awarded, the Booking Agent coordinates with the Handyband member to schedule the job.

Whether it's a Quick or a Custom Job, we can typically get most jobs booked in less than two weeks. If you're on a deadline though, let us know in advance and we will do everything we can to accommodate it at no extra charge.

 FAQs

  • Usually, we can get what we need from a few pictures and basic Q&A, but we offer an initial site visit for $50 if you feel more comfortable with that.

  • For the best experience and results, we ask everyone to fill out a new gig form, because it’s always a new gig to us! If you have an urgent issue, you can call us at the number listed on our New Gig form.

  • Yep, because we still had to pack up the tools and deal with Austin traffic to get to your place. You might as well just use that time to have us tackle more random jobs on your list in the meantime.

  • There are a few reasons we may need two people on the job.

Safety is our priority, and some jobs can get really dangerous in a flash if there aren’t three or four hands readily available.

Training is a big part of our mission, and as a collective, we work together to help each other learn new skills and grow as mentors. We provide our apprentices with hands-on training and opportunities to learn.

Even when there are two members on a job, our rates are competitive and our service is razor sharp. If at any time you feel the estimate should be revised, your Booking Agent is more than happy to discuss it with you.

  • Absolutely! The hauling costs will be represented in your estimate and will be specific to the size of your project. For LARGE projects, we use local hauling companies and have consistently competitive rates. For SMALL projects we recommend several options:

    - Utilize your city provided bulk pickup (approx. FREE). Many neighborhoods still have on-demand bulk pickup or at least one day a month where even construction debris can be taken away. We can help too! We’ll cut stuff up and stack it at the street or attempt to stuff it into your trash can.

    - Use our Roadie Service (approx. $180 - $200) which include a vehicle, driver, 2 hours of labor, and small amount of gas. Dump fees are additional, and typically a ‘truck bed load’ costs approximately $75, depending on weight.

    - Use a haul-away service such as Waste Management’s Bagster, which can be purchased at big-box stores. This option costs about $280 all in. Honestly, it holds about the same as a Truckload, but is much cheaper with heavier materials like brick / stone / etc.

  • We’ve done this long enough to know that there are countless unknowns when we begin a job. We believe it’s best to look at repairs as a sliding scale of complexity and cost based on these unknowns. We don’t like surprises when it comes to the actual cost vs. the estimate of your job.

IF you pay for a SITE VISIT, we’ll give you a MAX labor cost for your job. So, IF the scope and assumptions of the job do not change, we cap the labor time at the MAX cost allowed for the job. If it takes LESS time? It’s just hourly over the MIN labor cost of the job.

  • Once the work is done and you’ve agreed that you’re ready for a bill, we will send you an invoice via email. That way you can securely pay with your debit card / credit card / ACH or Wire Transfer.

You can also mail a check or pay in cash, but it will need to be pre-arranged.

  • We can do that too, but this way of approaching home repairs is traditionally the most expensive and most painful for everyone involved. It is the fastest way to get someone out, but not always the fastest way to get the job done.

    - If you just want someone to show up ASAP, we ask that you agree to a ‘Cost Plus’ working arrangement. We still need a New Gig submission so that we can figure out who/how many people to send out and determine your working rate. The first available person / team will begin immediately assessing, doing demo, and/or fixing the issue. You will be on the hook for at least the 2 hour minimum, but we will stop and inform you of what we discover. You also have total control to pause, slow down, or stop the work for whatever reason.

  • Not weird at all! You might want to wait until the work is complete though, or just make it a cute little lunchtime jam.

“True and the crew of Handyband Collective are fantastic. They have helped with some small repairs and landscaping. They do a professional job and are always reliable. And the bonus is getting to talk to crew members about their musical endeavors!”

- Sylvia P., Handyband client

“We've used the Handyband a couple of times for small house projects that weren't a big enough job for a specialist, and True and the guys are so nice, do a great job, make it really easy. And we feel good about supporting local musicians too! Highly recommend for handyman projects!”

“These musicians shouldn't be getting up early & working with sawdust all day, but they did such a GREAT JOB! Get them to help with your To-Do List, and maybe you’ll get compliments on your record collection!”
